This is a continuation of ECE 1. In addition to reviewing the information taught during the first year of study, we will also be learning about classroom set-up, toy selection and safety, children's health and safety (including child abuse recognition and reporting), developing effective relationships with parents, and working with children that have special needs. We will also spend time developing a resume and professional portfolio, and practice effective skills for jobs searching and interviewing. To meet practical (hands-on) learning requirements, we will continue to run a preschool lab, and also senior students will gain experience in off-site work-based learning locations.
In ECE 1, we will be learning about careers in the field of early childhood education, child development, lesson planning, curriculum areas for early childhood, and children's health and safety issues. During the first year, practical experience is gained by setting up and running a preschool out of our classroom for young children from the community.
